Program of the School of Biblical Studies (SBS)

The School of Biblical Studies is a full-time program, which means that students live, work, and study at our campus in Pichilemu, Chile. Classes are held approximately three mornings a week (with additional sessions at the start of the school year and during seminars). A significant portion of the program consists of independent study. We value a “balanced” Christian lifestyle, and therefore, in addition to their studies, each student will participate in daily life, including times of intercession, worship, meals, outings, celebrations, two hours of practical work each day, and more.

The SBS consists of three trimesters. It is possible to take only the first trimester or the first two trimesters, but only in consecutive order (In that case, you must notify us in advance).

The content of the trimesters is as follows:

  • The first trimester of SBS begins with an introduction to the inductive Bible study method in the form of an intensive three-week seminar. During the remainder of the first quarter, we study most of the books of the New Testament.

  • In the second trimester, we study the rest of the New Testament and then begin the Old Testament, covering Genesis through Samuel.

  • The third trimester covers the remaining books of the Old Testament, and we conclude with a gospel.

The school's curriculum is not organized around themes or topics, but is based on a book-by-book study of the entire Bible.

SBS's approach is different from that of other Bible schools:

  • Study the Bible on your own. The course content consists not of lectures on the Bible, but of the Bible itself. Students are not merely learning what others say about the Bible, but primarily what the Bible itself says.

  • Study the Bible on your own. The focus is on self-study. Students will not only listen to others, but will discover for themselves what the Bible says.

  • Study the entire Bible on your own. Perhaps the most unusual aspect of the BSE is that the entire nine-month program consists of “simply” studying the entire Bible book by book on your own.

The Inductive Study Method

SBS is based on the inductive study method. This means that we strive to be attentive listeners to the Scriptures. The inductive method seeks to let the Bible speak for itself, based on a close examination of the text. To do this, we do not begin by studying individual verses or paragraphs, but first seek to understand the context of the entire book. The three steps we will consistently apply are:

  • Observation: What does the text say?

  • Interpretation: What did the text mean to its original readers?

  • Application: What does the text mean to me or us today?

Recognized by the University of the Nations as: CHR 213, CHR 315, CHR 316.
